Recent 2nd Saturday Artwalk Photos

Santa Claus was at the Manley Art Center, supposedly
so the kids could have their picture taken with him.
But it seems to me, living on the North Pole, he forgot
what kids look like. And also ............ he don't
look like a Saint to me at all |
Sara Broderick started the Art Walk at Manley with
an artist demonstration. The big mirror over her
head makes it easy for the viewers to follow her
work.

The Nuncrackers at Dewey's Diggs. Dewey's Diggs, named
after PILOT founder Dewey Akers, is the new name of
the PILOT's conference room on Art Walk Alley. To
celebrate the official opening of this "Art Walk
Gallery," devoted to photo art, the nuns came
over from the Pelican Players latest production "Nuncrackers"
and performed a few snippets of this musical comedy.
|
Following the Nuncrackers,
former PILOT owner Dick Keusink gave a short speech
on the symbiosis of the people of Brookings and their
newspaper. His wife, Polly, read a limerick she had
composed for the occasion.

Horst Wolf, one
of the founders of the Brookings Art Walk, added
a few words thanking the PILOT for its continuing
support of the Art Walk. He pointed out that employees
of the PILOT not only report about the Art Walk,
but they also participate as artists and musicians.
"They have thoroughly infiltrated us."
|

One of those infiltrators is Bill Schlichting, who
goes to every Art Walk with camera around his neck.
For November, he is the Artist of the Month in Dewey's
Diggs. His photos were mounted on the walls around
the audience.

The program ended with
the Limericists under Lynn Guild (on the right), another
PILOT employee, reciting their newest writings. In
addition to being the Limerick Queen, Lynn also was
the driving force earlier this year on getting the
alley behind the PILOT named Art Walk Alley - officially
- by the City, with street signs installed and all
the rest of it. Lynn also convinced Charlie Kocher,
PILOT publisher, to donate Dewey's Diggs as a new
venue for Art Walkers.
|
In the audience were
the other two other co-founders of the Art Walk,
Brian Scott (2nd from right) and Dale Wells (3rd
from right).

Midway through the
Art Walk, as usual at 5:30, we had a reading at Words
& Pictures. This month the reader was Carol Crow,
who read from her own works. Carol is President of
the Brookings Toastmasters.
|
In the library gallery,
the four featured artists talked about their art.
Here we see Gold Beach artist Alexandra Eyer (left)
and Brookings artist Pete Chasar (right), who also
coordinated this month's exhibit.

And afterwards the
participating Art Walk musicians got together to have
a little party of their own, to relax after three
hours of playing for the Art Walkers. And what did
they do? Play some more. Here we see Lon Goddard,
who played at Wright's Frame Shop, presenting his
latest creation to an audience of critical peers.
|
And here we see Aura Wright, Lon's partner in crime. This
is all for today. We could only report on a few
of the venues.
Steve didn't have
the time to hit all venues, especially the outlying
ones, and I played music in the CAVE ON ART WALK
ALLEY, next to the PILOT. But I saw Nola Range walking
around with a camera taking photos. So I suggest
you go to her website (www.wildriverscoastart.com)
and see what she has to show-and-tell you. And if
we are lucky, Bill Schlichting may put a few of
his shots with words in the PILOT too.
So long until the next Art Walk on 13 December,
Horst
